How I got here…

I have always wanted to blog but didn’t know where to begin. First, let me start with this is NOT a Mom blog. I don’t have any magical tips of Super Mom-hood, or How to budget and find Utopia in making your own soap to save $1000 a year type blog. But how does someone have a new, innovative, creative, first of its kind blog when there are so many blogs out there and it all seems like it’s all been done before? I have no idea! I am a stay at home wife with no children. About 4 months ago, I married my soulmate. I quit my job, working in customer service at a call center in Albuquerque, New Mexico and drove across the country with 2 dogs and 2 cats crammed in a little Saturn Ion to Harrisburg, Pennsylvania. Since we’ve been here, my wife works for a great company and enjoys what she is doing. And I? I craft, a lot.

I worked in the customer service industry for years, exclusively in a call center setting for almost 5 years. And I hated it. Although it was not the worst job on the planet, it definitely had its challenges. Yes, typically I had to deal with frustrated and angry people for 8 hours a day. But it was also such a difficult environment to work in and find yourself. There was always someone better than you so the chance of promotions were like fighting Gladiators in the Coliseum. I stayed because I was good at it and the money was always good, even though it sucked out my soul with every phone call. To be honest, I knew how angry it made me to work in that environment but I don’t think I knew how much I hated it until I got out. And I mean “out” like it was prison. I served my time, I don’t want to go back! I won’t! So when coming to Harrisburg, the last thing I wanted to do was to turn my resume to some HR recruiter, paste a smile, and tell them how much I want to work for them.

So since then, I have been spending time crafting, creating, and learning things that bring me so much joy and happiness. There is such an accomplishment felt when making something, and I’m not sure how it will work or how it’s going to look until it’s done. Or go to the store and find things that I know I could make something out of it, I don’t know what at the time but it’ll come to me. Or I find something on Craigslist that is not great but I can change it to something different. Once it’s done, I criticize it until it’s just perfect and voila! It’s amazing! It all started with knitting. I had always wanted to learn how to knit/crochet. Family members would knit and I would watch them mesmerized. My grandmother used to crochet Afghan blankets and I wish I learned how to make them from her before she passed away. Now, I can knit and crochet! However, I’m an impatient person. Sometimes I need an instant gratification of something made so I’ll do a side project to give my hands a break from the knitting needles.

With all that said. My goal with this blog will be to share the knowledge that I have gained from my crafting obsessions. Some projects are small. Some are very big. But hopefully, it will inspire someone to do something that they wish they could do. Or something that will make them feel the same joy as I do. I will also post on Thursdays of each week and build on this foundation. Of course, I sell some of my lovely creations and are available for you to check out in the “Buy my Crafts” section of my website.
